Explore Every Rocky & Creed Filming Location from Philly to Russia
The Rocky franchise didn’t start in a studio—it was born on the streets. If you’re wondering where was Rocky filmed, the answer is mostly one place: Philadelphia. The heart and soul of the original Rocky (1976) lives in its real locations—rowhouses, meat lockers, run-down gyms, and working-class streets that gave the film its gritty authenticity.
But the Italian Stallion didn’t stay put. Across nine movies—from the classic Rocky to Creed III—the camera traveled everywhere: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, even Siberia (well, really Jackson Hole, Wyoming).
This is your master guide to Rocky filming locations, covering more than 50 real-world spots used throughout the series. Whether you’re planning a Philly pilgrimage or just geeking out from the couch, we’ve got the real addresses, photos, and behind-the-scenes trivia.
More Than Just Philly
While Philadelphia is the franchise’s home base, the saga’s scope got bigger with each sequel. If you’ve ever asked where was Rocky filmed beyond Philly, here’s just a taste:
- Rocky III brought us to L.A. gyms and beaches for Apollo’s slick training style.
- Rocky IV faked Siberia with snow-covered Wyoming.
- Creed III hit the streets of Los Angeles and downtown boxing gyms.
We track it all—so if it showed up on screen, it’s in here.
Top Rocky Filming Locations
Rocky Balboa’s Apartment
(Philadelphia) Rocky’s run-down street looks just as it does in the movie, tattered screen door and all. Not a great neighborhood, but the best place to down your eggs and start the morning run.
Mighty Mick’s Gym
(Philadelphia) It’s Mickey Goldmill’s grungy gym near the pet shop, the spot where Rocky trains – and loses his locker.
“The Rocky Steps” – The Philadelphia Museum of Art
(Philadelphia) There is not a single more iconic location for die-hard fans. Plus, the bronze Rocky statue lives here, too!

Rocky Filming Locations: Then and Now
Plenty of the original Rocky filming locations are still standing—and fans still make the rounds every day.
Mighty Mick’s Gym, is still there in North Philly. It was renovated in 2024 and changed a bit, but the building’s bones are the same. It’s one of the most recognizable spots from the original Rocky.
The Italian Market on 9th Street is also still going strong—fresh produce, butcher shops, and all. You can walk the exact same stretch Rocky jogged through.
Rocky’s apartment, located in South Philly, is still there too—and surprisingly, it looks almost exactly like it did in the movie. It’s a must-see spot for fans who want the full street-level experience.
Out in California, Santa Monica Beach—where Rocky and Apollo sprinted during their Rocky III training montage—still has that same long stretch of sand.
