The Rocky 4 House: Real Location & Film History
If you’ve ever wondered where Rocky and Adrian lived in Rocky IV, you’re looking at one of the most camera-ready homes in Los Angeles. This Italian-style estate in Hancock Park wasn’t just a quick exterior shot — both the inside and outside of the mansion were used for filming in Rocky IV, making it one of the most iconic Rocky homes in the franchise.
You’ll spot the front of the house right at the top of Rocky IV, when Rocky and Apollo return from their friendly sparring match. But if you watch the director’s cut — Rocky vs. Drago — you get an even better view. There’s a new daytime scene of Rocky and Apollo chatting on the lawn about taking on Ivan Drago. They’re posted up on that unforgettable front porch with the concrete lion statues flanking the steps — you can’t miss it.
This is not the same house used in Rocky III, even though the two look a lot alike. Totally different location, but also in Los Angeles.
Interior Scenes Filmed at the Rocky 4 House
It’s not all that common for a film to use both the exterior and interior of a real house, but this place is no stranger to the spotlight. The production shot multiple interior scenes here, including:
- Paulie’s robot-filled birthday party, with the whole family gathered around.
- The dining table argument where Apollo makes his case for fighting Ivan Drago.
- And most dramatically, Adrian standing on the staircase shouting, “You can’t win!” That staircase — with its dark wood and intricate carving — is original to the house and still looks just like it did in the movie.
A Peek Inside: 55 Fremont Place
Because 56 Fremont Place is in a gated community, there’s no way to visit or view the interior today. But here’s the next best thing: the mansion directly across the street, at 55 Fremont Place, went up for auction in 2024. Real estate video tours of that home show a nearly identical architectural style, layout, and finishings — think ornate staircases, grand dining rooms, and old-school luxury. It’s probably the closest we’ll get to seeing what the inside of Rocky’s actual movie house looks like today.
Where Is the Rocky 4 House?
The Rocky 4 house sits at 56 Fremont Place in Los Angeles — a private, gated street in Hancock Park. This mansion has quite the Hollywood resume. It’s shown up in TV shows like Charlie’s Angels, Beverly Hills: 90210, CSI: Miami, and The Mentalist, and in films like The Artist and Taken (yep, it played Liam Neeson’s ex-wife’s mansion).
Locally, it’s just known as “The Fremont Place House,” and it’s got a deep backstory. Originally built in the early 1900s by businesswoman Helen Mathewson, the place has been home to silent film stars like Mary Pickford and Mary Miles Minter. It’s a full-on piece of Los Angeles history — complete with 6-foot lion statues and a tiered fountain that was built to impress high society.
